Capital City Entertainment Partners with Ricci Communications to Promote New Film

05/24/06

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Capital City Entertainment, an Alexandria-based independent film production company, hired Ricci Communications to promote its first feature film scheduled to be released nationwide on DVD June 13, 2006. Fatwa, a political thriller starring Lauren Holly, addresses the intangible topics of power, fear and ethics in a post-9/11 world.

Ricci Communications worked with Capital City Entertainment’s senior management team to establish objectives and then identify the associated target audiences. As a result, target audiences included business persons and potential investors in the local and national markets; film and entertainment executives and talent; and the potential DVD consumers.

In addition to its other efforts, Ricci Communications is also serving as part of a three-way team responsible for local DC and Atlanta markets, national distribution channels and entertainment industry outlets. Ricci Communications was able to secure several interviews with local media and obtained feature coverage for Capital City’s founders, director John Carter and writer Scott Schafer, in the Washington Business Journal discussing their unique filming techniques and business strategies. The pair utilized new filming technology to produce a Hollywood-quality film for under $1 million in only nine months.

In addition to traditional forms of PR, such as news releases, email and telephone pitches, Ricci Communications worked closely with Capital City Entertainment to build “buzz” through non-traditional, Internet-based media to spark conversation over Fatwa’s controversial subject matter. Utilizing political and filmmaking blogs, as well as the Internet Movie Database (www.IMDb.com) and the Web site MySpace (www.myspace.com), readers were challenged to evaluate the concept of terrorism from diverse cultural and societal perspectives. These topical discussions helped create buzz about the movie and drive advanced orders available through Amazon.com and Blockbuster.

Several larger outlets have expressed interest in reviewing the movie and have pre-release screener copies of the Fatwa including The Washington Post, the Washingtonian magazine and local ABC News. Ricci Communications also helped secure a panel speaking role for Carter during a June 11 Atlanta Film Festival that marks the big screen debut of the film.
