Ricci Communications Coordinates PR and Media Coverage for Annual Non-Profit Memorial Day Military Survivor Camp

06/13/06

ALEXANDRIA, VA The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), a national non-profit Veterans' Service Organization, created to provide comfort and care for those grieving the loss of a loved one in military service, contracted Ricci Communications for public relations services leading up to their 12th Annual Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp for Kids, including the coordination of media coverage pre and post event, as well as onsite.

The Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp for Kids was attended by close to 400 children and family members who lost their loved ones while in service to the military. Through Ricci Communications’ efforts the event received impressive national coverage in the print as well as television media. TAPS’ print coverage included a front-page, top of the fold New York Times article with accompanying picture. TAPS mentors spoke on a local News Channel 8 morning show and two very special young survivors were featured LIVE on CNN during Memorial Day coverage.

Ricci Communications’ outreach strategy included pitching stories to the media through aggressive phone, email and fax campaigns and a substantial presence onsite to coordinate media logistics and facilitate last minute coverage requests.

“TAPS is a unique organization seeking to provide comfort to families that have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country,” said Joe Ricci, President and CEO of Ricci Communications. “They are a privately funded organization and this annual event is one of their best opportunities to gain exposure, and thus funding, to extend their services to all of those facing such devastating losses. We were proud to contribute to such a successful event.”
